President Bola Tinubu has made history with the appointment of Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the new Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s over six-decade existence.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Odusote’s appointment, which takes effect from January 10, 2026, will run for a single four-year term, making her the first woman to head the Nigerian Law School since it was established in 1962.

She will take over from Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure comes to an end on January 9, 2026. Until her new appointment, Odusote served as the Deputy Director-General and also headed the Lagos Campus of the Law School.

A seasoned legal scholar, Odusote earned her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.
She later obtained a Master’s degree in Law, specialising in company and commercial law, before completing a doctorate in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, where her research focused on public law and justice administration.
Her career at the Nigerian Law School began in 2001, and over the years, she has occupied several strategic positions, including Director of Academics, Head of the Academic Department, and Campus Head. She has also gained international exposure as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK.

Odusote is widely published in both local and international legal journals and has presented scholarly papers at numerous conferences on legal education. In addition, she has served on key committees within the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director-General, she will oversee the academic and administrative affairs of the Nigerian Law School across all campuses, while also coordinating with major stakeholders such as the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association to shape the future of legal training in Nigeria.
