The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified that the delay in paying corps members the newly approved ₦77,000 monthly allowance was not deliberate but due to a lack of cash backing from the federal government.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that this explanation follows widespread complaints after corps members received only ₦33,000 for February instead of the promised ₦77,000.
NYSC’s acting spokesperson, Mrs. Carol Lembu, disclosed the reason for the delay in a WhatsApp conversation with SaharaReporters on Monday morning.
“We are still awaiting the cash backing,” Lembu stated.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has demanded an investigation into the NYSC’s failure to implement the new allowance as promised.
In a statement released on Sunday, NANS National Vice President for Inter-Campus Affairs, Felicia Akinbodunse, insisted that corps members deserved an explanation for the shortfall.
According to Akinbodunse, findings from her office confirmed that corps members only received ₦33,000 as their February allowance, despite assurances that the full ₦77,000 would be paid by the end of the month.
She further argued that there was no justification for the delay, noting that civil servants at both the state and federal levels had already begun receiving the newly approved ₦70,000 minimum wage.
