Gunmen have attacked the Old Oyo National Park located in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, sparking fresh security concerns in the region.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, reportedly involved an assault on officials of the national park. Although there were claims of casualties, the exact number of deaths or injuries had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the attack in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday afternoon. He said security agencies had already mobilised to the area to restore order and assess the situation.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men against the men of the national park,” Ayanlade stated.
According to the police spokesperson, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical units to the affected location. The deployment includes tactical teams, officers of the Mobile Police Force of the Nigeria Police Force, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units.
Ayanlade said the move was aimed at preventing any further breakdown of law and order while ensuring the safety of personnel and residents in the area.
“The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Femi Haruna, have deployed Tactical teams, Mobile Police Force officers of the NPF and EOD to the affected area to prevent further breakdown of law and order,” he added.

Security operations were ongoing as authorities worked to stabilise the situation and determine the extent of the attack. Residents in surrounding communities were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
