According to him, the suspect was found with a Beretta pistol, complete with a magazine and two rounds of 9mm ammunition, items he stressed are restricted to authorised security agencies.
The suspect, identified as Igbunu Evans from Sapele, reportedly admitted that he bought the firearm via Snapchat. He claimed he ordered it from a vendor on the platform and paid ₦450,000 for its delivery.

During interrogation, Evans said he acquired the weapon for personal safety against threats such as kidnappers. However, he also confessed to engaging in internet fraud for about three to four years.
Reacting to the development, Edafe noted that the case highlights how different forms of crime are often interconnected, linking internet fraud, cultism, substance abuse and illegal arms possession.
He reiterated that it is unlawful for civilians to possess such weapons, emphasising that firearms like the Beretta pistol are strictly for use by authorised security agencies.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court as investigations continue.
