According to a statement issued by the Theatre Command’s Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when suspected ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters attempted to breach positions occupied by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and allied forces.

Uba said the attempted infiltration was quickly detected by security personnel, who responded with heavy firepower alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
He explained that the coordinated response forced the attackers to abandon the operation and retreat towards the Cameroon axis after suffering significant losses.
Military authorities confirmed that 12 terrorists were neutralised during the confrontation, while several others reportedly escaped with injuries, leaving traces of blood along their withdrawal routes.
Security forces also recovered a cache of weapons and combat equipment from the scene.

Items recovered included AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade launch systems, ammunition and a PKT machine gun.
The military said the recovery further weakened the operational capability of insurgents within the area.
The latest operation comes amid continued efforts by Operation Hadin Kai troops to curb insurgent activities across the North-East region.
