The Bodija Housing Estate Police Division, in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Council (PCRC) and the community policing unit, issued a public alert warning of rising criminal activities, particularly kidnapping and armed robbery, in areas such as Akobo and Bodija.
In a statement signed by the PCRC and Community Policing Unit of the division, residents were urged to take precautionary measures to safeguard themselves and their families amid the reported increase in crime.
The statement, titled “Urgent Safety Measures Amid Rising Kidnapping and Armed Robbery Incidents in Areas Including Akobo and Bodija,” attributed the trend partly to the quest for quick wealth by some individuals.
“In light of the recent increase in criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery across our communities, it has become imperative to issue updated safety guidelines,” the statement said. “The desire for quick wealth has driven some individuals to commit terrible acts, and we must all be vigilant.”

Residents were reminded that security is a collective responsibility and were encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities or emergencies to the Oyo State Police Command and the Bodija Division through designated emergency contact numbers.
The warning has heightened tension in the affected communities, with residents admitting to being more cautious about movement and daily routines.
A resident of Bodija Housing Estate, who spoke anonymously, said the security notice was prompted by recent incidents in the area. “The recent happenings necessitated the move. People are now more careful and think twice before going out. We are definitely more security conscious than before,” the resident said.
