The Kebbi State Government has reunited 5 underage children rescued from suspected human traffickers with their parents after they were intercepted while allegedly being transported from the state to Edo State.
Eko Hot Blog reports the children, who were taken from their families in Danko-Wasagu and Zuru Local Government Areas, were reportedly promised better educational opportunities before being moved out of the state.

The children were handed over to their parents in Birnin-Kebbi by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, who represented Governor Nasir Idris during the exercise.
The deputy governor warned parents against allowing strangers to take their children to unknown destinations under the guise of providing them with better education or other opportunities.
He urged parents to exercise greater vigilance and ensure that they know the identity, location and activities of anyone entrusted with the care of their children.
Tafida also warned that the state government would take appropriate action against parents who deliberately neglect their responsibilities and allow their children to be taken to unknown destinations.
Earlier, the Kebbi State Commandant of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Misbau Iya Kaura, said the children were intercepted in Gusau, Zamfara State, while allegedly being transported to Edo.
He said the children had been taken from their parents under the pretext of enrolling them in modern schools.
According to him, 5 suspects had been arrested in connection with the alleged trafficking, while another suspect remained at large.
Iya Kaura appealed to the state government to provide suitable accommodation within the NAPTIP command’s premises for rescued victims while investigations continue.
The Secretary to the State Government, Yakubu Bala Tafida, assured NAPTIP of the state government’s support for efforts to protect children and combat human trafficking.
The rescued children were subsequently reunited with their families, bringing them back into the care of their parents while investigations into the alleged trafficking operation continue.
