The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Akiolu, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and emerge stronger under the present administration, urging citizens across all divides to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the monarch made the remarks on Friday at his palace, Iga Iduganran, Lagos Island, during the installation of six new Lagos White Cap Chiefs.

He called on Nigerians to place national interest above personal and selfish considerations, stressing that collective responsibility is key to the country’s progress.
Oba Akiolu reaffirmed his commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Lagos, noting that traditional institutions remain vital to social stability and development. He charged the newly installed chiefs to remain dedicated to the advancement of Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
The chiefs installed include Architect Gbolahan Oki as the Ogboni Iduntafa of Lagos; Chief Ajibade Nosiru-Ayeni as the Eletu Odibo of Lagos; and Chief Adebola Olalekan Dosunmu as the Olorogun Adodo of Lagos. Others are Chief Yusuf Jinadu Bajulu as the Bajulu of Lagos; Chief Razak Onimole as the Onimole of Lagos; and Chief Lookman Oluwa as the Onisemo of Lagos.
The ceremony attracted a large gathering of family members, friends, traditional chiefs and residents of Lagos Island, while activities outside the palace took on a festive, carnival-like atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the reopening of the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal for passenger operations on January 19, 2026, three months after it was shut down.
In a statement issued on Friday, LASWA said the terminal was closed on October 20, 2025, due to navigational challenges caused by water hyacinth infestation, forcing ferry services to be diverted to Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty.
According to the authority, the reopening follows the successful clearance of the waterway, completion of safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority .
