A fire outbreak at a residential building on Bola Street in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State has claimed the life of a 103-year-old woman and destroyed several properties.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu. He said the agency received a distress call around noon on Friday and immediately activated emergency response procedures.

According to him, LASEMA’s response team arrived at the scene at about 12:13 p.m. and found a bungalow with two attached shops completely engulfed in flames.
Preliminary findings revealed that the fire started in one of the rooms before spreading rapidly to other parts of the building. The exact cause of the fire had not been determined as of the time of reporting.
Sadly, the elderly woman, who was trapped inside the building, did not survive the incident. Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that she was the only casualty recorded.
The fire affected eight rooms, a mini flat, six shops and several household items within the compound, leading to significant property loss.
Firefighters and other emergency responders successfully brought the blaze under control, while the remains of the deceased were recovered and handed over to her family for burial arrangements.

LASEMA said rescue, recovery and dampening-down operations had been concluded, while further assessment of the damage caused by the fire is ongoing.
