In a statement released today, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the restriction, which applies to both roads and waterways, was agreed upon in collaboration with other security agencies under the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security. The goal is to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process.
Additionally, the police have prohibited armed escorts and security aides from accompanying VIPs to polling units or collation centers. Those who violate this directive will face arrest and prosecution. The use of sirens and vehicles with covered number plates near polling or collation centers is also strictly forbidden.
“Only essential service vehicles such as ambulances, fire trucks, and patrol vehicles of accredited ICCES agencies will be allowed to move during the restriction period,” the statement read.
The police pledged to strictly enforce the movement restriction, warning that anyone who disobeys the order will be promptly arrested and prosecuted. Officers and personnel have been instructed to carry out the enforcement professionally but firmly.
Only a few categories are exempt from the restriction, including emergency responders, accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, election observers, and journalists who are on official duty and carry valid identification tags issued by LASIEC.

All security personnel, LASIEC officials, media, and observers must visibly wear LASIEC-certified identification tags. “Anyone without such tags will be arrested, investigated and prosecuted,” the police warned.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, urged all residents to cooperate with security personnel and to perform their civic duties in a peaceful manner. He issued a stern warning to political thugs and their sponsors to stay away from polling areas, emphasizing that the law will be applied firmly and without delay.
He also called on all 15 political parties involved in the election to control their supporters and avoid any conduct that could interfere with the smooth running of the electoral process.
“The full extent of the law will be applied on anyone who violates the peace,” the police stated.
Parents and guardians have been advised to warn their children and wards against participating in violence or any form of voter intimidation.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the police through the emergency numbers 08063299264 or 08065154338.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to providing a safe, fair, and credible election. It also expressed appreciation to Lagosians in advance for their cooperation.
