Describing the elder statesman as “an individual whose life is intertwined with the political evolution of the South-West and Nigeria at large,” Adewole noted that Akande’s leadership has consistently reflected prudence, accountability, and simplicity.

“As governor, he demonstrated that true leadership is measured by service, sacrifice, and legacy, not personal luxury or excess,” Adewole said.
Speaking also as the Secretary of the Akande Foundation, Adewole described Akande at 87 as “a bridge between generations,” whose influence has shaped progressive politics in Nigeria from the Action Group and Unity Party of Nigeria, to the Alliance for Democracy, and eventually the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He added, “Chief Akande’s leadership is frank, principled, and consistent, earning him respect across political, ethnic, and religious divides. In an era of political convenience, he remains a symbol of conviction.”
Adewole further praised Akande as a champion of federalism and progressive ideals, highlighting his commitment to honesty, modesty, and hard work.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we pray for God’s continued blessings—good health, peace of mind, and strength. May his life and example inspire today’s leaders and generations to come,” Adewole said.
According to PUNCH Online, Akande’s public service career has been marked by discipline, integrity, and dedication to the common good.
He served as governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 under the Alliance for Democracy and later became the pioneer National Chairman of the APC when the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party, Congress for Progressive Change, and other parties merged in February 2013.
