EKO HOT BLOG reports that security sources said the fighting broke out around Dogon Chiku Buhari village, a border community in Abadam LGA, located less than one kilometre from the Nigeria Niger border.
According to the sources, fighters of the Bukura faction, believed to be operating from settlements on the Niger Republic side of the Lake Chad Basin, launched a coordinated attack on ISWAP elements positioned on the Nigerian side of the border.
The confrontation reportedly escalated into hours of intense fighting, with both sides deploying heavy weapons in the remote border area.
“The fighting took place around Dogon Chiku Buhari, east of Tubum Mota and along the Bosso Diffa axis in the Niger Republic. It lasted several hours and resulted in heavy casualties on both sides,” one of the sources said.
Security sources added that Tubum Mota village is located east of Malam Fatori, approximately 19 kilometres away. The area has remained a frequent flashpoint due to persistent rivalries between extremist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
The Lake Chad region, spanning parts of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon, has long been a hotspot for violent clashes involving splinter factions of Boko Haram and ISWAP, often driven by leadership disputes, territorial control and access to resources.

Military authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the latest clash. However, security experts warn that sustained infighting among terrorist groups continues to pose serious risks to border communities already grappling with insecurity, displacement and humanitarian challenges.
