EKO HOT BLOG reports that the elections are currently scheduled for Saturday, 21 February 2026.
In a letter dated 22 January 2026, signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the ADC highlighted that the proposed election date coincides with Ramadan, a period observed by a significant portion of the FCT electorate.
The party emphasized that “given the profound cultural and religious significance of this period, and in the interest of robust and active participation in the democratic process by all eligible voters,” INEC should reconsider the election date. The letter formally requested that the elections be held after Ramadan.
The ADC stressed that the request aims to ensure inclusivity in the electoral process. The party said it seeks “an inclusive electoral process that enables all eligible citizens, irrespective of faith, to fully exercise their constitutional rights without constraint or disadvantage.”
The communication also clarified that the party’s engagement with INEC is strictly institutional and procedural. It expressed readiness to follow due process, requesting “guidance on the procedural requirements for submitting a formal application in accordance with the Electoral Act, the Constitution, and the Commission’s guidelines.”

As part of its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy, the ADC stated that electoral legitimacy is strengthened when processes encourage broad participation and reflect awareness of the social and religious realities of voters. The party pledged to continue advocating for election arrangements that respect diversity, prioritize citizens, and reinforce public confidence in democratic institutions.
