The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has announced that over 250,000 young Nigerians are currently enrolled in the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, a milestone towards the ministry’s target of one million enrolments.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Alausa made the disclosure on Thursday during his induction as a member of the Epe Club in Lagos State, an event held to honour political leader Shakiru Akanni in the Epe Division.

The ceremony brought together political stakeholders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries.
Highlighting the administration of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to education, Alausa said the TVET initiative is central to equipping young Nigerians with practical skills for national development.

“Skill is the present and the future. We have changed the interest of our young citizens in skill development, and that is why, within the last 14 months, we have put a robust technical and vocational education training programme in place, and we’ve seen millions of young Nigerians coming in,” he said.
He added that the current 250,000 trainees represent the “first squad” of the one million Nigerians the programme aims to train over the next two years.
Upon completion, participants will receive starter packs and access to low-interest loans to support their new skills.
Alausa also praised the Epe Club for the induction and for recognising Shakiru Akanni, saying such gestures encourage the reinforcement of positive social norms and inspire future leaders in nation-building.
