El-Rufai Queries NSA Over ‘Toxic’ Thallium Sulphate
The political atmosphere in Abuja has turned frosty following a double-barreled controversy involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
In a letter that surfaced today, February 15, 2026, El-Rufai demanded “clarification” regarding the alleged procurement of Thallium Sulphate—a highly toxic chemical—claiming that 10kg of the substance was imported from Poland under questionable circumstances.

EkoHotBlog reports that the letter, addressed to NSA Nuhu Ribadu, questions the intended use of the chemical and whether the procurement followed strict international safety and legal protocols.

Presidency Demands Probe After Wiretap Confession
The chemical allegation was quickly overshadowed by El-Rufai’s own admission during a televised interview. Responding to questions about how he stays ahead of security moves against him, the former governor stated that his team “listens to their calls,” referring to the NSA.
Presidency spokesperson Bayo Onanuga has since described the confession as a “grave security breach,” calling for an immediate probe into how a private citizen acquired the technology to wiretap the nation’s top security chief.
The fallout marks a new low in the relationship between the former APC power broker and the current administration’s security inner circle.
