Dr. Ahmed’s resignation comes as a surprise to many, as he has chosen to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a statement issued in Abuja, NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, thanked the outgoing chairman for his service while emphasizing that the party is now entering a “marathon” phase toward 2027.
Bala Mohammed, who previously served as the party’s National Organising Secretary, takes the reins at a time of significant economic and political tension. Johnson described the new chairman as a leader with the “integrity and courage” needed to navigate “turbulent waters.”
“Our democracy is under attack, but the NNPP remains a sanctuary for the hopes of the common man,” the statement read.
“Under the leadership of Honourable Bala, we are not just preparing for an election; we are preparing to salvage a nation.”
The leadership change reflects a broader trend of political realignments across Nigeria. The NNPP has called on its members to rally behind Mohammed to strengthen its electoral prospects.
The party maintains that it is now “better positioned than ever” to serve as a viable alternative for Nigerians seeking governance reform.
