The Osun State Government has clarified that local government workers continue to receive their core salaries despite ongoing delays in federal allocations.
In a statement on Tuesday via X, Eko Hot Blog gathered that the state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, described claims that workers were unpaid as misleading and inaccurate.

Alimi explained that “there has been no interruption in the payment of core salaries to local government staff. Salaries are being disbursed fully and on schedule.”
He noted that despite the federal government withholding local government allocations, amounting to roughly ₦230 billion, the state, under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, has ensured uninterrupted salary payments using state resources.

“This intervention has protected workers and their families from undue financial strain,” the commissioner added.
However, Alimi acknowledged that the withheld allocations have affected the payment of certain allowances and supplementary benefits, which rely on statutory local government funds.
“While salaries remain consistent, some allowances cannot be fully paid in the absence of the intended allocations,” he said.
The commissioner emphasized the need to differentiate between core salaries and other entitlements to avoid public misunderstanding.
The clarification comes amid a longstanding dispute over local government control in Osun State. Following Governor Adeleke’s 2022 inauguration, councils elected under the previous All Progressives Congress administration led by Gboyega Oyetola were dissolved.

Some of the former APC officials reportedly resisted leaving office, creating a legal and political standoff.
In September 2025, an Oyo State court barred United Bank for Africa from accessing or disbursing funds in the 30 local government accounts linked to the court-sacked APC officials, pending the resolution of an interlocutory injunction motion.
