“In the immediate term, our technical and engineering teams have been deployed to diagnose and resolve the root cause of the cooling system failure. Restoration works are ongoing, and efforts are being intensified to return the affected coaches to optimal operating condition as swiftly as possible,” said Mr Kolawole Ojelabi, Head of Corporate Communication.
The agency also highlighted its long-term strategy to improve capacity, comfort, and reliability. By the third quarter of 2026, three new train sets, each with eight coaches, will be delivered, bringing an additional 24 coaches to the Red Line corridor. This upgrade aims to strengthen the fleet and enhance the overall passenger experience.
LAMATA reassured commuters that it remains committed to delivering safe, efficient, and world-class rail services, while taking proactive measures to minimise technical disruptions.

“We appreciate the patience, understanding, and continued support of the public as we complete these essential repairs. The comfort, safety, and well-being of all passengers remain central to our operations,” Ojelabi added.
Meanwhile, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), praised LAMATA for its prompt response and ongoing support for persons with disabilities. Speaking during a visit to LAMATA’s headquarters in Ojota, Lagos, she commended the inclusive facilities provided on trains and buses.
Mrs Oyetunde-Lawal recommended the establishment of dedicated Disability Support Offices at major transport hubs to assist passengers with disabilities, offering designated spaces for complaints, directions, and support. She also pledged LASODA’s assistance in translating information displayed on LAMATA services into sign language to improve accessibility.
Responding, LAMATA Managing Director Mrs Abimbola Akinajo reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to high customer satisfaction for all commuters. She noted that the Blue Line rail system is fully accessible for persons with various disabilities and encouraged passengers to report any cases of abuse or discrimination to uniformed LAMATA officials.
