A secondary school student, Tope Oriloye, has been safely released following her abduction in the Makeke Community, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
Oriloye was kidnapped by gunmen on February 8, 2026, at a local community health centre.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the abduction occurred alongside Samuel Ilesanmi, who had brought his son to the health centre with his wife when the attackers struck. Oriloye’s release was secured after a ransom payment of N2 million.

Bode Ekundayo, National Coordinator of the Movement for the Advancement of Akoko-Edo People, confirmed the news, stating:

“We all give thanks to God for the safe arrival of Tope Oriloye back home last night. She is safe, healthy, and unharmed. We are still awaiting the good news of the second victim, who is from Ososo.”
Edo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, also verified Oriloye’s release, confirming that she is now back with her family. Efforts to secure Ilesanmi’s release are ongoing.
