Eko Hot Blog reports that the lecture, themed “The Importance of Imam and Alfa in Islam – Kini Ojuse Imam ati Alfa ni Awujọ wa,” focused on the spiritual responsibilities of Islamic leaders, the sanctity of Ramadan, and the urgent need for moral uprightness in society.
Speaking at the event, His Royal Majesty, Oba Asunmo Aderibigbe, emphasized the importance of sustaining the annual Ramadan lecture as a platform for spiritual growth and community development.
He described the mosque as not only a place of worship but a center for unity, discipline, and moral instruction.
“Ramadan is a period of deep reflection and correction. Whatever we consider a sin during this sacred month should not return to our lives after Ramadan,” he said. “We must live every day as people who are accountable before God.”
Also lending his royal voice was Oba Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya Yesufu, who underscored the spiritual significance of building and supporting the house of God.
He urged well-meaning individuals to contribute generously toward mosque development, noting that investing in God’s house is a lasting legacy.
“Building the house of God is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about building faith, character, and the future of our children,” he stated.
In the same vein, Oba Olukayode Raji, JP, highlighted the shared values between Ramadan and Lent, urging both Muslims and Christians to uphold righteousness beyond the sacred seasons.
“What we reject as sin during Ramadan and Lent must remain rejected after the season. True worship is consistency,” he advised. “Let us remember that death can come at any time, and we must always be prepared.”
Similarly, Oba Oladipupo Kabiru Badejo called for unity and peaceful coexistence among religious adherents, stressing that moral discipline, charity, and humility are virtues that transcend religious boundaries.
The Guest Lecturer, Hon. Abdul Lateef Abdul Hakeem (Yepe), reiterated the duties of Imams and Alfas as spiritual guides, teachers, and custodians of moral values.
He charged religious leaders to remain steadfast and courageous in guiding their congregations aright.
“An Imam is not only a prayer leader but a moral compass for the community. When leadership is upright, the society will be upright,” he said.
The Chief Imam of Odo-Ayandelu Central Mosque, Alhaji Musiliudeen Osho Adetona, appreciated attendees and donors for their support, explaining that proceeds from the fundraising would be directed toward infrastructural development and strengthening religious activities within the mosque.
The programme concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Odo-Ayandelu, Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, Lagos State, and Nigeria at large.
