Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 20 individuals in connection with alleged electoral violations during the recently concluded Federal Capital Territory local government elections.

According to a statement shared on EFCC’s official X account on Sunday, the arrests took place on Saturday, February 21, 2026, across various FCT council areas. The suspects were detained in Abaji (2), Gwagwalada (9), Kuje (4), and Kwali (4).

The EFCC report noted, “The suspects face allegations ranging from vote buying, vote selling, to obstructing electoral officers, involving a total of N17,218,700.”
In one notable incident, a suspect was arrested with N13.5 million in a vehicle parked near a polling station in Kwali Local Government Area. The agency confirmed that all detainees would be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
The February 21 elections, conducted across all six FCT area councils Abaji, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) were reportedly marred by inducements.

Observers, including representatives from the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD-West Africa), documented cases of voters being offered between ₦1,000 and ₦5,000, especially in Gwagwalada and Kuje polling units.
Preliminary results released by INEC on Sunday showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning five of the six chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed victory in one council.
