According to the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the accident happened at about 4:20am and involved a white Volvo commercial vehicle with registration number AYE 977 XA.
The Sector Public Education Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, said preliminary findings pointed to excessive speeding as the cause of the crash.
Seven people; five men and two women were involved in the accident. Three were confirmed dead at the scene, one woman sustained severe multiple fractures, while three others escaped unhurt.

Odunsi stated that FRSC officials arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported and maintained a response time of approximately 10 minutes. The injured victim was taken by relatives to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.
Emergency responders, working alongside the Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), cleared the wreckage to restore traffic flow.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, warned motorists against speeding, particularly at night and around sensitive locations such as railway crossings.
The incident comes less than a week after an oil-laden truck lost control on the same expressway, killing six people and injuring several others. Following that tragedy, the Ogun State Government ordered the removal of roadside traders and shanties along the corridor to improve safety.
