According to reports, the shooting happened at about 4:25 a.m. after a disturbance inside the club escalated into violence.
Preliminary accounts indicate that the suspected gunman had been involved in an altercation and was being escorted out of the premises by security personnel when the situation took a deadly turn. While being led outside, the individual allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire.
Witnesses said the suspect had earlier behaved in a disorderly manner and was accused of making inappropriate advances towards female guests, including Shittu’s girlfriend, which reportedly sparked a heated exchange.
Shittu had visited the club alongside his younger brother, Fawaz Shittu, to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Speaking in the aftermath of the shooting, Fawaz described the experience as devastating, recounting his desperate efforts to get his brother to respond after he was struck.

Another relative, Salem Shittu, questioned the security arrangements at the venue, expressing concern over how a firearm was able to pass through screening at the entrance. He suggested that stricter security protocols might have prevented the tragedy.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting and remains at large. An investigation is ongoing.
Shittu was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Family members described him as a hardworking and creative young man who had relocated to the United States with hopes of expanding his fashion business and building a better future. His death has sent shockwaves through both his local community in New York and the Nigerian diaspora.
