According to the statement, the students were travelling in a commercial bus from Suleja, Niger State, to the university for their final examinations when the crash occurred at Otte in Kwara State on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
The deceased students were identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kevwe, Owoicho Elizabeth, and Aroke Ozavize Victoria. They were all final-year students in the institution’s Open and Distance Learning Nursing programme.
“With a heavy heart, the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology announces the tragic loss of six of our cherished students,” the statement read, noting that the victims embodied resilience, hope, and dedication to their educational pursuits.

The university extended its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, assuring them of its solidarity during the period of mourning. It also called on members of the public to keep the families in their thoughts and prayers.
The incident comes barely weeks after another fatal accident involving a student in Kwara State. Earlier in February, Kwara State University confirmed the death of a 400-level student, Idris Agboluaje, who died in a road crash in the Malete area while heading to campus for an examination.
