The accident resulted in the immediate death of one individual. Three other persons sustained severe injuries and were transported to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.
Witnesses noted that the truck’s driver appeared to have lost control due to a suspected brake failure.
According to bystanders, the truck was descending the steep incline from Paramount Hill when it became apparent that the driver was struggling to control the vehicle.
The loud crash echoed across the Ayetoro market area as the heavy-duty vehicle smashed into the commercial tricycle, popularly known as a “Marwa” or “Keke Napep,” crushing it completely before coming to a stop.
“It was a terrifying scene,” one witness reported. “The truck driver was trying to avoid colliding with other vehicles, but the speed was too much. The tricycle was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Authorities, including local security operatives and road traffic management officials, arrived shortly after the incident to secure the area and manage the resulting traffic congestion.

Crowds gathered to witness the aftermath of the tragic event, while emotional scenes unfolded as sympathizers processed the loss of life.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed that efforts are being made to clear the wreckage, including removing the heavy truck, to ease vehicular movement on the Epe-Lekki expressway.
The police are investigating the mechanical state of the truck, particularly focusing on the alleged brake failure, as preliminary findings indicate a major mechanical fault.
