EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement issued on Saturday, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the government is closely monitoring the evolving and volatile security situation in the region.
The ministry warned that rising hostilities could trigger further escalation and urged Nigerians in affected areas to take precautionary measures to safeguard their lives and property.
Ebienfa stated, “Avoid areas known to be strategic, military, or government installations, as these could be potential flashpoints.
“It is strongly recommended that Nigerians restrict non-essential movement and travel within the country until the security situation becomes clearer and stabilises. Avoid large gatherings and public demonstrations.”
The government also directed citizens to adhere strictly to instructions issued by local authorities.
“Citizens are strongly advised to strictly comply with all security and safety directives issued by the local authorities to ensure their safety. Remember that cooperation with local law enforcement is paramount for safety,” the ministry said.
Nigerians were further encouraged to rely on credible information sources and refrain from spreading or acting on unverified reports that could heighten panic.
The ministry disclosed that Nigerian embassies in Tehran and neighbouring Gulf states, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, have been placed on alert to provide necessary consular assistance.

It assured that the government will continue to assess developments and provide timely updates as the situation unfolds.
