Two soldiers from Ghana Armed Forces serving in the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been critically injured after missiles struck their battalion headquarters in southern Lebanon amid rising hostilities between Israel Defense Forces and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah.
The Ghanaian military confirmed the development in a statement released Friday, revealing that the Ghana Battalion headquarters under the UN mission was hit by two missile strikes within a short span of seven minutes on March 6, Eko Hot Blog reports.

According to the statement, the attacks occurred between 5:45 p.m. and 5:52 p.m. local time. Two peacekeepers sustained serious injuries, while another soldier was left traumatised by the incident.

The strikes also caused heavy destruction at the facility. Officials disclosed that the camp’s Officers’ Mess building was directly hit and completely destroyed by fire following the explosion.
The injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at the base’s Level One Medical Bunker. Military authorities said they are in stable condition and arrangements are being made to transfer them to the UNIFIL referral hospital for further care.
Despite the attack, the Ghanaian military assured the public that other troops stationed at the base remain safe. Many personnel were able to move into underground bunkers immediately after the strike as a precaution.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has filed an official protest with the United Nations in New York through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Authorities in Accra urged all parties involved in the conflict within the UNIFIL operational zone to respect international obligations protecting peacekeeping forces.
The attack marks one of the most serious incidents involving Ghanaian peacekeepers in recent years and highlights the worsening security climate along the border between Israel and Lebanon.

Ghana has long been a key contributor to UNIFIL, a mission established to monitor Israeli troop withdrawals from southern Lebanon and help maintain stability in the sensitive border region.
The latest strike also reflects the growing tensions along the so-called Blue Line, where clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah have become increasingly frequent amid the wider regional conflict.
