Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Sheleru Olalekan, over alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the 45-year-old suspect, who previously served two terms as councillor representing the Orimedu community and currently works as a legislative aide, was apprehended on March 2, 2026, at his residence in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki.

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, officers recovered about 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, from a room in the suspect’s home during a search operation. Babafemi said Olalekan admitted ownership of both the seized substance and the property where it was discovered.

In a separate operation in the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA officers on March 3 arrested a 32-year-old trader, Emeka Hyginus Okwor, while travelling from Enugu State to Abuja. A search of his belongings revealed 1,000 tablets of tapentadol (250mg) hidden inside baby diapers.
The suspect reportedly confessed that he intended to deliver the drugs to Guduwa village in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, where he runs a small provision store.
On the same day, NDLEA operatives along the Kabba–Obajana highway in Kogi State intercepted 1.55 kilograms of Colorado, a synthetic form of cannabis, concealed inside a standing fan carton. The package belonged to a Cameroonian national, Mey Ali Muhamat, who was travelling in a commercial bus from Lagos to Cameroon.

Meanwhile, in Niger State, officers stopped a commercial bus along the Mokwa–Jebba road coming from Ibadan in Oyo State and discovered a sack containing 500 components used for improvised explosive devices.
A follow-up operation led to the arrest of the suspected recipient, Osama Abdullahi, 21, in Pelegi, Mashegu Local Government Area.
Further seizures were recorded in several states. In Adamawa State, NDLEA operatives in Yola uncovered 122,000 tramadol pills and 700 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a truck transporting cartons of local beverages. In Kano State, a 20-year-old suspect, Muhammed Ali, was arrested with 11,283 tramadol tablets.
In Ogun State, two suspects, Nazifi Mudansir and Kabiru Musa, were arrested during a raid in Ogere with 46 kilograms of skunk.
Similarly, in Delta State, officers apprehended Joy Chukwuma and Eugene Felix in Ogwashi-Uku with 18.63 kilograms of skunk, 10.8 litres of codeine syrup and more than 4,000 tablets of tramadol and swinol.
The agency also destroyed over 1,900 kilograms of cannabis cultivated on farms in the Egbisi forest area of Uhumwonde Local Government Area in Edo State.

Two suspects, Eke London and Austin Isusi, were arrested during the operation, while another suspect, Alaba Adeboye, was later apprehended in Ikhin town with 176.5 kilograms of the substance.
NDLEA also noted that its commands nationwide have continued the War Against Drug Abuse awareness campaign through educational programmes in schools and communities across states including Oyo, Niger, Zamfara, Lagos, Sokoto, Ebonyi and Anambra.
The NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mohamed Buba Marwa, commended officers from several state commands for the arrests and seizures, urging them to maintain the agency’s balanced strategy of enforcement and public sensitisation in tackling drug abuse nationwide.
