If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele will replace Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is expected to move to the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning as Minister of State. The change would mark Uzoka-Anite’s third ministerial portfolio since the beginning of the Tinubu administration.
The president’s request was conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, Tinubu explained that the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which authorises the president to appoint ministers subject to Senate confirmation.

“In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the letter read.
The president also expressed confidence that the Senate would give the nomination prompt consideration.
“While I hope that this request will receive the expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest regards,” the letter added.
Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative consideration.
“In line with our practice and considering the urgency, the nomination is hereby referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration,” the Senate President said.
