A female passenger has died while six others sustained serious injuries in a road accident at New Castle Bus Stop inward Gbagada along the Oworonsoki-Apapa Expressway in Lagos.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
Taofiq said the crash, which occurred over the weekend, involved a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number LSD 654 XY that reportedly veered off the road and rammed into a roadside culvert.
According to him, the force of the impact threw a female passenger out of the vehicle onto the expressway.
He explained that an oncoming articulated trailer approaching the scene could not stop in time and ran over the passenger, leading to her immediate death.
Taofiq added that six other occupants of the bus, including the driver, sustained varying degrees of injuries, with some reportedly suffering multiple fractures.
He said officials of LASTMA quickly secured the accident scene to prevent further crashes and facilitate emergency response operations.

Personnel of the Lagos State Ambulance Service evacuated the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment, while officials of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit removed the remains of the deceased from the scene.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
He also advised motorists and commercial vehicle operators to ensure regular maintenance of their vehicles, particularly the braking system, in order to prevent avoidable road accidents.
