. Barcelona also avoided defeat only at the very last moment, with teenage star Lamine Yamal converting a stoppage-time penalty to secure a 1–1 draw against Newcastle United.
Bayern dominate without Kane
Even without their leading scorer Kane, Bayern were ruthless in front of goal. The England captain has scored 47 goals this season for club and country but began the match on the bench.
In his absence, Michael Olise scored twice, while Serge Gnabry and Nicolas Jackson both found the net and also created goals for teammates.

Additional strikes from Josip Stanisic and Jamal Musiala completed a convincing victory that leaves the German champions in a strong position heading into the return leg.
Atletico punish Spurs’ risky decision
Tottenham endured a disastrous start in Madrid following a controversial decision by coach Igor Tudor to leave regular goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on the bench.
His replacement, Antonin Kinsky, struggled on his Champions League debut. A slip and poor clearance in the sixth minute allowed Marcos Llorente to open the scoring.

Soon after, Antoine Griezmann doubled Atletico’s lead, and another mistake from Kinsky set up Julian Alvarez to score into an empty net. Kinsky was substituted shortly afterward, with Vicario coming on but unable to prevent Robin Le Normand from adding a fourth goal for the Spanish side.
Although Spurs managed to respond later in the game, Atletico still hold a strong advantage going into the second leg.
Late drama for Barcelona
Barcelona appeared set to lose in England after Harvey Barnes put Newcastle ahead in the 86th minute. Barnes had earlier come close to scoring when his curling effort struck the post.
However, deep into stoppage time, defender Malick Thiaw fouled Dani Olmo in the penalty area. Referee Marco Guida awarded a spot kick, and 18-year-old Yamal calmly converted in the 96th minute to salvage a draw for the Spanish giants.
Galatasaray edge Liverpool
Galatasaray secured a slim advantage over Liverpool after a 1–0 victory in Istanbul. The decisive moment came early when midfielder Mario Lemina headed home in the seventh minute.
The Turkish champions had already shocked Juventus earlier in the competition and nearly extended their lead in this tie when Victor Osimhen had a second-half goal ruled out for offside.

Liverpool also had a goal disallowed after Ibrahima Konate was judged to have handled the ball during the build-up.
Despite the defeat, Liverpool coach Arne Slot remained optimistic ahead of the return match at Anfield, where he hopes the home crowd will help his team turn the tie around.
