- Eight Drivers Nabbed for One-Way, U-Turn Violations
- Akerele warned that repeated violations could escalate into a broader public safety threat if left unchecked
- Akerele emphasized that the Task Force would show no leniency
The Lagos State Task Force, working in tandem with the Lagos State Mobile Court, has impounded eight vehicles in Ikorodu and surrounding areas for traffic offences, as part of intensified efforts to curb dangerous driving practices across the metropolis.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the enforcement exercise, carried out on Tuesday, targeted motorists flouting traffic laws, particularly those driving against traffic and performing illegal U-turns behaviours that have increasingly endangered pedestrians, schoolchildren, passengers, and law-abiding drivers.

According to Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the Task Force spokesperson, one-way driving remains a major contributor to avoidable accidents and fatalities in Lagos. “Motorists who disregard traffic rules put themselves and others at serious risk. This exercise is part of our ongoing effort to enforce compliance and promote road safety,” he said.
Chairman of the Task Force, Adetayo Akerele, warned that repeated violations could escalate into a broader public safety threat if left unchecked. “We are determined to sustain strict enforcement against traffic violators and ensure that everyone adheres to the law,” he stated.
The operation covered multiple locations within Ikorodu, including the Haruna axis, where numerous offenders were apprehended. At the Mobile Court session in Ikorodu, five of the eight defendants admitted to charges related to driving against traffic and illegal U-turns, while the remaining three pleaded not guilty. Cases for the latter were adjourned to March 24, 2026, and May 5, 2026.

Akerele emphasized that the Task Force would show no leniency. “Enforcement will continue in strict compliance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018. Our goal is safer roads for all Lagos residents,” he said.
The agency reiterated its commitment to combining enforcement with public education to ensure a lasting culture of road safety in the state.
