The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of students linked to a widely circulated bullying and assault incident at Igbinedion Education Centre, following public outrage over the disturbing video.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the arrests were made after what she described as a “thorough and painstaking investigation.”

She added that all suspects involved are minors and will be arraigned before a Family Court in line with laws guiding juvenile justice and child protection.
According to the police, the incident stemmed from an earlier dispute involving two female students and a male student. Tensions escalated after the boy allegedly made a provocative comment about the girls’ late father, which triggered a confrontation.
“Angered by the remark, the girls attacked the student after school hours,” the police said, adding that the situation worsened when a parent who tried to intervene was also assaulted.
“When a parent stepped in, they turned on her, physically confronting her and tearing her clothes,” the statement added.
The school management subsequently expelled the students involved in the initial attack.

However, the situation took another turn the following day when the son of the assaulted woman reportedly carried out a revenge attack.
“On the following day, the male student, whose mother had been assaulted, attacked the victim seen in the viral video in what has been identified as a retaliatory act,” the police explained, noting that the victim was related to the girls involved in the earlier incident.
In a related development, the families of the affected students, identified as the Asoro and Uyi families, have issued formal apologies over the incident.
Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika ordered a statewide reinforcement of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative to address security and supervision gaps in schools.
The Command also announced the deployment of its advocacy platform, Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, to intensify sensitisation programmes aimed at curbing violence and promoting discipline among students.
Authorities say the measures are part of broader efforts to prevent a recurrence and restore safety within school environments across the state.
