EKO HOT BLOG reports that the clash, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, also led to the destruction of several houses, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the area.
In a statement issued in Lafia, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the affected communities on April 3, 2026, to assess the situation and restore calm.
During the visit, the police commissioner expressed sympathy with families of the victims and assured residents of efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
According to the police, the violence was carried out by hoodlums in what is believed to be a reprisal attack following the killing of two individuals.
“The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the same day, involved hoodlums suspected to have carried out a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen,” Nansel said.
He disclosed that the attack resulted in widespread destruction across the affected communities.
“In the course of the attack, 11 persons were killed, while about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa and two houses in Udege Kasa,” he added.
The police said a manhunt had been launched, with tactical and investigative teams deployed to identify and arrest those responsible.
“In response, CP Shetima has ordered an intensive manhunt for all perpetrators of the heinous act, directing tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution,” the statement said.
Security has also been reinforced in the area through collaboration with the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to prevent further violence.
Meanwhile, residents expressed fears over reports that suspected armed groups may be behind the attacks, describing the situation as worsening.
“It is becoming unbearable. They abduct at will and now invade our entire communities unchecked. People are living in fear and fleeing their homes for safety,” a resident said.

The affected communities, once known for mining and economic activities, have in recent times faced repeated attacks, raising concerns about farming and livelihoods as the planting season approaches.
Residents have called on the Nasarawa State Government to take urgent steps to restore peace and protect lives and property.
