The ceremony was attended by a broad spectrum of political stakeholders and high-ranking government officials, including former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau.
Immediately after taking his oath of office, Garo expressed his readiness to serve diligently under the Yusuf-led administration.
He assured the people of Kano State that his focus would remain on advancing the government’s developmental policies while fostering a sense of continuity and stability within the executive branch.
Garo further emphasized his commitment to promoting democratic values and ensuring that the administration’s goals for the state are met effectively.
The emergence of Garo as the deputy governor marks the conclusion of a turbulent period in the state’s executive leadership.
The position became vacant following the resignation of the previous deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.

Gwarzo’s departure was triggered by mounting political friction, which included allegations of misconduct and a looming impeachment process initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.
Following his exit from office, Gwarzo joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) before eventually resigning from that party as well in May 2026.
The appointment of Murtala Sule Garo is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the current administration’s hold and refocus on governance as the 2027 election cycle approaches.
With the formalization of this new leadership structure, the state government aims to move past the recent internal crises and prioritize the delivery of public services and infrastructure projects across the state.
