Deputy Financial Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has criticised the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, following his defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress.
Fabiyi made the remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, where he questioned Obi’s leadership style and motives. He argued that Obi is not inclined to confront political challenges, adding that his actions suggest a focus on personal interests rather than collective goals.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he said, “Peter Obi is not a man who likes to face challenges; he is not a leader who wants to fight for the people; he wants to fight for himself.
“There was a purpose for it. Now he’s the only one who can say the reason why he left. And I’m happy that he said he didn’t leave because of Atiku Abubakar or David Mark, but because he said he was uncomfortable with certain things.”
Meanwhile, Abuja Coordinator of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, Jabir Ibrahim Yaro, explained that Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, left the ADC due to internal crises and broader political considerations ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yaro, in an interview with Daily Post, said opposition parties in Nigeria are currently facing significant instability, which has affected their ability to function effectively.
He said, “First of all, as you know, in Nigeria, opposition parties are actually in trouble or in danger because of the current administration, because there is no single opposition party, as it is now, that is clean and without any internal crisis.”
He also alleged that powerful forces were contributing to the internal challenges within opposition parties, including the ADC.
