Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a major drug trafficking attempt involving cocaine hidden inside dried fish, leading to the arrest of a suspected syndicate member.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the seizure followed intelligence on cross-border drug activities.

The operation, carried out by the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, led to the arrest of a 36-year-old suspect in Lagos. During a search, officers discovered 237 wraps of cocaine concealed in dried stockfish, commonly known as “okporoko.” The drugs weighed 5.80 kilograms and were reportedly being prepared for shipment to Delhi, India.
In another interception, NDLEA operatives uncovered two separate consignments headed for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos. One shipment contained 1.9 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in automobile parts, while another included ampoules of morphine and fentanyl.
The agency also carried out multiple raids across the country, leading to several arrests and seizures.
In Lagos, operatives arrested two suspects during a raid in Yaba, where 135 blocks of cannabis were recovered. Another suspect was apprehended in Surulere with additional quantities of the substance.

In Ekiti State, an 80-year-old man was arrested during a raid, with small quantities of cannabis and methamphetamine recovered from him.
In Ondo State, officers uncovered a large stash of cannabis in an uncompleted building, while in Benue State, a suspect was arrested with over 100 kilograms of the substance.
Similarly, in Edo State, a warehouse raid in Ekpoma led to the recovery of a significant quantity of cannabis and codeine-based syrup, alongside the arrest of a suspect.
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck transporting drugs concealed in animal feed bags, resulting in the arrest of two suspects.
The agency said it has also continued its “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign, carrying out awareness programmes in schools across several states.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohamed Marwa, commended officers involved in the operations nationwide, praising their efforts in both reducing drug supply and promoting awareness to curb drug abuse.
