Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of appointing Xabi Alonso as their new head coach after reaching an agreement for the Spaniard to take over at Stamford Bridge.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Alonso accepted Chelsea’s proposal following a recent visit to London, with both parties now finalising a four-year contract ahead of an official announcement.

Former Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola was also considered during the club’s search process before Chelsea moved closer to sealing a deal for Alonso.
The 44-year-old has been out of management since leaving Real Madrid in January, despite still having time left on his contract.

Before that spell, Alonso enjoyed major success with Bayer Leverkusen, guiding the club to their first-ever Bundesliga title during the 2023/24 campaign while completing the domestic season unbeaten.
As a player, Alonso is well known to Premier League fans for his successful time at Liverpool, where he won the UEFA Champions League in 2005.
Chelsea began searching for a new manager after parting ways with Liam Rosenior in April following a disappointing run of results that included five straight Premier League defeats.
Meanwhile, Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the 2025/26 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The match was decided in the 72nd minute when Antoine Semenyo scored from close range after a setup by Erling Haaland.
The victory handed manager Pep Guardiola his 20th trophy with Manchester City and secured the club’s eighth FA Cup title.
City also kept alive their hopes of completing a domestic double as they continue their push for the Premier League crown.
