The Nigeria Police Force in Edo State has confirmed the successful rescue of all 13 passengers abducted from a Young Shall Grow Motors bus along the Benin-Lagos Road on May 9, 2026.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem.

According to the statement, the victims were abducted at Ogua Community along the Benin-Lagos Road when armed kidnappers attacked the commercial bus travelling from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos.
The police said a female passenger sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
“We wish to update the general public on the kidnapping incident which occurred on 9th May, 2026, at Ogua Community along the Benin–Lagos Road, where armed kidnappers attacked a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors conveying thirteen passengers from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos, during which a female passenger was shot by the hoodlums,” the statement read.
The command explained that rescue operations commenced immediately after the incident through coordinated bush combing and intelligence-driven operations.
According to the police, the first phase of the operation led to the rescue of five passengers, including two adults and three children.

“Furthermore, on 10th May, 2026, through the deployment of drones, aerial surveillance, intelligence-driven policing, and sustained technological support, operatives of the Command engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel and successfully rescued two additional passengers,” the statement added.
The police confirmed that the remaining six abducted passengers were later rescued unhurt.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives involved in the operation for their bravery and resilience.
He also assured residents that security operatives are continuing intensive bush combing operations to apprehend those responsible for the crime.
