In the video, the suspect alleged that six students were kidnapped using mini buses and further claimed that some victims escaped while others secured their freedom after ransom payments were made.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Command, SP Eno Ikoedem, said investigations revealed the claims to be false.
According to the police, the viral publication created widespread fear and anxiety among residents and had the potential to erode public confidence in the state’s security system.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Ikoedem disclosed that the suspect is currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the probe.
The command also cautioned residents against sharing unverified information, particularly on social media platforms.
Police urged members of the public to verify information through credible sources before dissemination, warning that the spread of false security alerts could disrupt public peace and create unnecessary panic.
