Several party members have accused state governors of influencing the process by declaring preferred candidates as winners before the official announcement of results by returning officers appointed by the party’s national secretariat.
The development has generated widespread complaints among affected lawmakers, some of whom have reportedly appealed to President Bola Tinubu and other senior party stakeholders to intervene.
The aggrieved lawmakers argue that the alleged imposition of candidates undermines democratic principles within the party and deprives the National Assembly of experienced legislators whose contributions remain vital to governance and national development.
According to a Presidency source familiar with the situation, the dispute presents a delicate challenge for the ruling party.

“It is a sensitive issue that requires careful handling. Many governors are determined to have loyalists emerge as candidates in order to consolidate their political influence ahead of future elections,” the source said.
The source noted that many of the lawmakers who lost their tickets are believed to have strained relationships with their state governors, further complicating the situation.
“The governors insist on having candidates they consider loyal, while the party must also ensure fairness and justice in the process,” the source added.
Another source disclosed that President Tinubu has already begun consultations with key stakeholders, including leaders of the National Assembly, in a bid to resolve the crisis and prevent divisions within the party.
“The APC is in a difficult position. Governors remain critical pillars of the party, but the concerns of lawmakers, especially those with legitimate grievances, cannot be ignored because of their grassroots influence,” the source said.
According to the insider, ongoing consultations are aimed at balancing competing interests while preserving party unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
The source also suggested that the delay in announcing final results in some contests may be linked to efforts by the party leadership to address complaints and build consensus.
Observers say the manner in which the APC resolves the disputes could significantly influence its internal stability and electoral preparedness as the countdown to the 2027 polls gathers momentum.
