A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ismaeel Ahmed, has expressed concerns over how a possible joint presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would perform in Kano State.
Naija News reports that Ahmed made the remarks during a TVC interview, stating that while Peter Obi is widely known in other parts of the country, his political support in Kano remains relatively weak.

According to him, any electoral strength Obi could gain in Kano would largely depend on the influence of the former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Ahmed referenced the 2023 presidential election, noting that Kwankwaso demonstrated strong political strength in Kano where he reportedly secured over one million votes. He described the outcome as evidence of the former governor’s enduring grassroots influence in the state.
He, however, cautioned that the political dynamics ahead of the next general election may not mirror previous results, stressing that voter behaviour could shift significantly.
Ahmed also argued that the structure of a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket could influence voter perception at the polls. He suggested that if Obi were to lead the ticket while Kwankwaso serves as a running mate, it could weaken the alliance’s appeal in Kano.
According to him, many voters in the state may respond more positively if Kwankwaso is positioned as the lead candidate rather than a deputy.

Ahmed stated:
“While Peter Obi may be very popular in other regions of the country, he certainly lacks that in Kano State. Kwankwaso will bring in a significant number of votes for him, but I doubt that will be enough to surpass the likes of Atiku and Tinubu.”
