According to the police commissioner, the arrests followed investigations into a case involving the unlawful possession of a Beretta pistol recovered at a motor park in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, on May 1, 2026.
The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, Clifford Boleyelefa, Amadi Princewill and Amadi Felix Chibuike.
Abaniwonda said the suspects were apprehended through intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives of the command in Bayelsa and Imo states.
He explained that Emmanuel Chukwuemeka was arrested in Bayelsa State on May 4, 2026, alongside his friend and roommate, whose phone was allegedly used to facilitate communication for the purchase of the firearm.

During interrogation, Chukwuemeka reportedly confessed to purchasing the gun from Amadi Princewill for N290,000 before reselling it to a suspect identified as Desmond, who remains at large, for N380,000.
Police investigations revealed that Desmond allegedly arranged for the firearm to be transported to Effurun and instructed a man identified as Oghenemine Ogidi, now deceased, to collect and deliver it to Sapele.
Following Chukwuemeka’s confession, detectives tracked and arrested Amadi Princewill in Imo State on May 15, 2026.
According to the police commissioner, Princewill subsequently revealed that he had obtained the firearm from another suspect, Amadi Felix Chibuike, for N200,000.
This led to the arrest of Felix in Owerri, Imo State, on May 16, 2026.
The police further alleged that all the suspects are members of the Black Axe confraternity.
Abaniwonda said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network, including the fleeing suspect, Desmond.
“All suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, while efforts to arrest other fleeing members of the syndicate are ongoing,” he stated.
