The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as the deputy governorship candidate to run alongside its Lagos State governorship flagbearer, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in the 2027 general election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made on Monday by the Lagos State APC Chairman, Ojelabi Cornelius, who said the decision followed extensive consultations among key stakeholders within the party.

According to Ojelabi, Sonayon-James’ emergence had earlier received the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos State.
Sonayon-James, who currently serves as the Lagos APC Deputy Woman Leader, was selected after a series of consultations initiated by the party following Hamzat’s emergence as the consensus governorship candidate.
The APC chairman said the selection process was based on competence, leadership capacity, grassroots appeal, loyalty to the party and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
He noted that Sonayon-James distinguished herself through her commitment to public service, dedication to the APC and experience gained across the public, private and political sectors.
Ojelabi expressed confidence that the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket would provide the right blend of experience, innovation and grassroots engagement needed to advance Lagos State’s development agenda.

He described the partnership as one capable of sustaining ongoing progress while effectively responding to the aspirations and expectations of residents.
The APC chairman also called on Lagosians to support the party in the 2027 election, stressing that the APC remains committed to economic growth, continuity in governance, inclusiveness and the overall advancement of the state.
He further noted that Sonayon-James enjoys significant support among women and young people due to her longstanding community engagement and service-oriented leadership style.
According to him, her nomination reflects the party’s commitment to promoting greater participation of women and youths in governance while strengthening efforts to position Lagos as a leading hub for innovation, investment and sustainable development in Africa.
