According to the sources, the rescue mission was launched on the evening of June 10 after security operatives received credible intelligence regarding the movement of armed bandits operating along the route.
Acting on the information, police personnel were swiftly deployed to the area, where they confronted the criminals in a gunfight.
The bandits were reportedly overwhelmed by the security response and fled into nearby forests, abandoning their captives in the process.
Security sources said several motorcycles allegedly used by the attackers were recovered during the operation.
The rescued travellers were evacuated to safety and are currently receiving necessary support while efforts are being made to reunite them with their families.
Following the successful operation, security forces have intensified patrols and clearance exercises along the Anka–Bukuyum corridor to prevent further attacks and track down the fleeing suspects.

The highway remains one of the most vulnerable routes in Zamfara State due to its proximity to forest enclaves often used by armed groups as operational bases for kidnappings and other criminal activities.
Security officials noted that the operation underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and sustained security presence in tackling banditry and protecting commuters across the state.
