Making the formal disclosure during a media briefing on Monday, June 15, 2026, the Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, stated that the substantial financial mobilization represents the government’s systematic approach to promoting family stability, easing economic burdens, and curbing societal vulnerabilities among vulnerable youth populations.
A breakdown of the ₦1.5 billion budgetary release indicates that the funds will be deployed to provide an extensive support structure for the newlyweds to ensure a stable start to their marital lives.
Sheikh Daurawa explained that the package covers essential household furniture, critical food items, and traditional wedding attires for the couples.
Additionally, the state will directly pay the statutory dowry for each bride and supply a direct cash grant of ₦100,000 to every woman to serve as startup capital for micro-enterprises, effectively combining cultural preservation with real economic empowerment.
To guarantee institutional integrity, the Hisbah Board, in direct collaboration with the Kano State Ministry of Health, has activated a rigorous medical vetting phase for all prospective marital partners.
The mandatory diagnostic process requires all applicants to undergo extensive screenings for chronic and transmissible health conditions, including HIV, Hepatitis, genotype variations, pregnancy status, and various sexually transmitted infections.

Out of more than 5,000 citizens who submitted formal applications for the government assistance package, only 3,000 individuals who successfully clear these clinical assessments will move forward to the final marriage registries.
The extensive screening program commenced operations across 24 out of the 44 local government areas in Kano State, establishing a seamless administrative grid to process hundreds of candidates daily.
Expressing profound appreciation to the state governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for prioritizing the heavy social investment project despite broader macroeconomic pressures, Sheikh Daurawa noted that the overall logistical machinery is fully optimized and waiting for the governor to declare the official date for the main synchronized wedding ceremonies.
The initiative continues a long-standing state tradition aimed at reducing marriage expenses for low-income families and widows across Northern Nigeria.
