Joined as defendants in the case are the national leader of the party, Seriaki Dickson, Moses Zunoghe, two other individuals, and First City Monument Bank (FCMB).
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Onyema, who later emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial candidate for Enugu West after failing to secure the NDC ticket, is also seeking ₦5 million in special damages.
The claimant is asking the court to freeze account number 1046691859, allegedly belonging to the party and domiciled with FCMB, pending the determination of the substantive suit.
He is further seeking an order directing the defendants to refund the sum of ₦20 million from the account or any other available source.
According to court documents, the money should be returned to account number 1023323381, UBA, OAU Onyema & Co, domiciled at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu.
In addition, Onyema is demanding ₦200 million jointly and severally against the defendants for alleged psychological trauma, embarrassment, hardship, discomfort and inconvenience arising from the matter.
He also requested the court to award 10 per cent monthly interest on the ₦20 million from June 2, 2026, when his demand letter was acknowledged by the party, until the amount is fully paid.
The claimant is further seeking post-judgment interest on any monetary award until final liquidation.
The court has tentatively adjourned the matter until July 2, 2026, for assignment and further proceedings.
Onyema had earlier alleged that he was “duped” after making several payments described as “party support” as part of efforts to secure the party’s senatorial ticket.

He said he formally demanded a refund after he failed to secure the nomination but resorted to legal action when his request was not granted.
