EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to Ebienfa, 63 of the 69 ambassadorial nominees have now received agrément, the formal approval required from host countries before ambassadors can officially assume their postings.
“Only six remaining so far. Waiting for Agrément,” he told Punch.
The ministry, however, did not disclose the countries where the outstanding approvals are pending.
In diplomatic practice, agrément is the official consent granted by a receiving country before an ambassador-designate can be formally appointed and deployed.
The ministry expressed optimism that the remaining approvals would be granted soon, paving the way for the completion of the ambassadorial postings.
Several Nigerian ambassadors have already commenced their diplomatic duties after presenting their Letters of Credence to their respective host countries.
Among them is Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who presented his Letters of Credence to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the Amiri Diwan in Doha on July 2, 2026.
Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mohammed Idris Haidara, also formally presented his Letters of Credence to King Willem Alexander at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague on June 24, 2026.
Similarly, Ambassador Ezenwa C. Nwaobiala presented his Letters of Credence to President Alassane Ouattara at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan on June 18, 2026, officially beginning his diplomatic mission to Côte d’Ivoire.
Ajimobi presents credentials in Austria
