Two men have been confirmed dead following a fatal road crash involving a Lexus car and a motorcycle in the Olorunsogo, Leme area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the accident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. on Monday and involved a black Lexus with registration number KJA 398 JR and a black TVS motorcycle bearing registration number AYT 837 QU.

According to eyewitnesses, the Lexus, which was reportedly speeding, collided with the motorcycle, leaving the rider with a fatal head injury. He died at the scene.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, Florence Okpe, said six adult males were involved in the crash, while two of them lost their lives.

She attributed the crash to speed violation, stressing the dangers of excessive speeding on the nation’s highways.

According to the FRSC, rescue operatives received the distress call at 5:50 p.m., arrived at the scene by 5:55 p.m. and immediately carried out rescue operations.

“A total of six adult males were involved in the crash. Unfortunately, two adult males lost their lives, while no injury was recorded among the other persons involved,” the statement read.

The corps said its personnel evacuated the victims, deposited the bodies of the deceased at the State Hospital, Ijaye Mortuary, and recovered personal belongings, including an identity card and a Tecno mobile phone.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, commiserated with the families of the victims and urged motorists and motorcyclists to obey speed limits, remain vigilant and avoid dangerous driving.

He noted that speeding significantly reduces reaction time and increases the severity of road crashes.

Ogunjobi also reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to improving road safety through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and prompt emergency response, while encouraging members of the public to report road crashes through the FRSC toll-free emergency line.
