The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, has said the party remains the most credible platform to address the state’s socio-economic and developmental challenges.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Sowunmi-Kolapo made the remarks during a visit to her Ijemo community in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, where she was welcomed by party supporters, traditional leaders, residents and other PDP members. She was accompanied by the party’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, and other party officials.

Speaking to supporters, Sowunmi-Kolapo urged residents, especially those from Egba land, to support the PDP in the 2027 governorship election. She said the party’s governorship ticket reflects the aspirations of the state’s indigenous people and called on voters to reject intimidation ahead of the polls.
According to her, the PDP has a strong record of governance and remains best positioned to improve the fortunes of Ogun State.
She also encouraged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), assuring them that every vote would count during the election.
The PDP candidate added that while the Egba people are known for their hospitality, leadership of the state should remain with individuals who understand the values and aspirations of the people.
Also addressing the gathering, Ogun State PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, described the party as the only political platform with a proven history of delivering democratic dividends in the state. He argued that projects executed under previous PDP administrations remain evident across various sectors despite the party being out of power.
Tella urged party members to remain united, strengthen grassroots mobilisation and encourage more residents to register and collect their PVCs, expressing confidence that the PDP would regain power in the 2027 governorship election.
Similarly, the party’s Ogun Central Senatorial candidate, Iyabo Obasanjo, appealed to voters in Ogun Central, particularly the Egba people, to rally behind the PDP. She said the zone deserved the opportunity to produce the next governor through a party with an Egba indigene on its governorship ticket.
Obasanjo maintained that the PDP possesses the experience and capacity to move Ogun State forward and called on residents to support the party at the polls.
